What is Recreational Gymnastics?
Recreational Gymnastics introduces the sport in a fun atmosphere where fitness, progression and team work are key. Gymnasts complete the Olympian Awards over the year, with regular testing every 5 weeks. This is a great way to learn new skills and progress up through our classes from the beginner group to our advanced classes on Sundays or into the Competitive or Display Squads.
Highlights during the year include the Halloween Haunted House, Christmas show, Mega-teams League, Team Gym Week and end of year Class Competition.
5-7 Years Old
This is an energetic class for our 5 - 7 year olds. Its program is developed especially to keep the gymnasts active and to build their fundamental motoring skills and social skills. It is achieved through play and exciting circuits, and by using colourful apparatus and aids to develop their gymnastics skills! This program also forms the important foundations for the gymnasts to progress through the sport!
8-9 Years Old
This is a class developed for our gymnasts around 8-9 yrs old. It caters for both beginners and more experienced gymnasts in this age group. The gymnasts get to work on all the apparatus, which is alternated every other week for variety. The more experienced gymnasts take the next step in their development, by working on more advanced skills. Like all of our programs, the gymnasts benefit from the fun environment, and hard work is always reinforced with reward and positive recognition.
9+ Years Old
This class is for ages 9+. Again, this class is for bout beginners (As it is important in the learning process that students are kept with their peer group.), and our most advanced gymnasts. Gymnasts that have been training with us through the years really begin to shine at this point in their development. The classes are developed to really challenge the gymnasts, and to make sure that their full potential is been developed.
NOTE:As gymnasts advance it is possible that they may be advanced up to the next class regardless of age.
Brief Outline of the Programme
Recreational gymnastics is a great introduction to the sport. In recreational gymnastics classes the gymnasts will be introduced to a variety of disciplines that can be found through the sport. For example: Tumbling, Men's Artistic, Women's Artistic, Acrobatics, Display, and Rhythmic. Within this program it is easier for the coaches to talent spot for any students that may have a particular talent for a particular discipline. It is important to remember that this is a fun introductory to the sport of gymnastics. It also allows gymnasts to train if they choose not to go into competitive training.
Within this program we offer 3 main structured objectives for the students to work towards:
1. Continuous assessment of badges and certificates
2. Christmas show
3. End of year competition
Additionally to these elements we award our gymnast of the month and we also encourage and motivate our gymnasts with weekly spot prizes. At the end of the year we award our gymnast of the year.
